Dear 2014…

January 10, 2014

I have you by the balls. I have figured out the secret.

My friend Kayla and I were talking over laps this Wednesday and we decided that our motto for 2014 is:

Time to get rid of the negative people in our life. We all have some one in mind when we read that statement. The energy sucker, the one you can never make happy, the one you never really want to text back, the person you always complain about.

The fact of the matter is that some people just aren’t meant to be your friend. Different people expect different things from their relationships, and sometimes those expectations conflict. It’s not necessarily that one person is right or wrong, they are just different. One woman may need a friend who obsessively texts her a thousand times a day, and another may just like checking her phone twice a day. These two people will probably clash, which they should, they want very different things out of their friendships.

Devoting a lot of time and energy into some one we are trying so hard to make happy, takes away from the real person we need to focus on. Ourselves. I personally feel that once we start making ourselves happy (spiritually and physically) our lives will flourish. Just like pruning a plant. It took me a series of bad relationships and feeling like a bad person to come to this realization, but nothing worth learning is easy.

So next time you shudder when you check your phone, maybe start thinking about some other options. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
